What Is Citrucel and How Does It Work?

Citrucel (methylcellulose) is an over-the-counter (OTC) bulk producing fiber laxative used to relieve constipation (irregularity), help to restore and maintain regularity, for constipation associated with other bowel disorders like IBS when recommended by a doctor, and generally produces a bowel movement in 12-72 hours.

Dosages of Citrucel

Adult Dosage Forms & Strengths

Caplet

500 mg

Powder

2g per scoop

Constipation

2 caplets up to 6 times per day; not to exceed 12 caplets per day; follow each dose with 8 oz. of water.

Alternatively, 1 heaping tablespoon (2 g) in 8 oz. water once per day to once every 8 hours.

Pediatric Dosage Forms & Strengths

2 caplets up to 6 times per day; not to exceed 12 caplets per day; follow each dose with 8 oz. of water
