What Are Dosages of Metronidazole Vaginal?
Adult and pediatric dosage
Vaginal gel
- 0.75% (MetroGel Vaginal, Vandazole)
- 1.3% (Nuvessa)
Bacterial Vaginosis
Adult dosage
- 0.75%: One applicatorful intraVaginal once a day/two times a day for 5 days at bedtime
- 1.3%: One applicatorful intraVaginal once as a single dose at bedtime
Pediatric dosage
- Children below 12 years: Safety and efficacy not established
- Adolescents aged above 12 years
- 0.75%: One applicatorful intraVaginal once a day/two times a day for 5 days at bedtime
- 1.3%: One applicatorful intraVaginal once as a single dose at bedtime

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Metronidazole Vaginal?
Common side effects of Metronidazole Vaginal include:
- vaginal itching or discharge,
- menstrual pain,
- breast pain,
- headache,
- rash,
- nausea,
- diarrhea, and
- cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat
Serious side effects of Metronidazole Vaginal include:
- convulsions (seizures),
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, and
- numbness, burning, pain, or tingly feeling in the hands or feet
Rare side effects of Metronidazole Vaginal include:
- none
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.
