What Is Nicotine Lozenge Used For and How Does it Work?

Nicotine Lozenge is an aid used to help smokers quit smoking. It is available over-the-counter (OTC).

Nicotine Lozenge is available under the following different brand names: Nicorette Lozenge and Nicorette Mini Lozenge.

Dosages of Nicotine Lozenge

Lozenge

  • 2 mg
  • 4 mg

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Smoking Cessation

  • Weeks 1-6: 1 lozenge every 1-2 hours
  • Weeks 7-9: 1 lozenge every 2-4 hours
  • Weeks 10-12: 1 lozenge every 4-8 hours
  • Do not exceed more than 5 lozenges/6 hours
  • Do not exceed more than 20 lozenges/day
  • First cigarette smoked more than 30 minutes after awakening: Initiate with 2 mg
  • First cigarette smoked within 30 minutes of awakening: Initiate with 4 mg

Safety and efficacy not established for pediatric patients.
